The City Utilities board meets today and will consider a resolution calling for a major study of the utility’s transit system.

The board meets at 3 p.m. on the second floor of CU headquarters, 301 E. Central Street.

The study, in partnership with the city of Springfield and Ozarks Transportation Organization, would look at the role of a transit system that serves not only Springfield but surrounding areas, and how such a system might be funded.

The study is in response to last year’s state audit report that criticized CU's transit system subsidy.

The resolution notes that eliminating the gas and electric subsidy of the bus system, as the auditor recommended, is “irreconcilable” because the city charter requires CU to operate a transit system.

The CU board also will consider approving the utility’s annual budget contribution to the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, the utility’s annual scorecard and a resolution on CU’s energy management and conservation programs.

The board will also get updates on the utility’s electric, water, gas and telecommunications operations.
